This is the question that I come across many times in the forum, site comments and even via emails. Lot of people still do not have any idea about where to get the new connection and buy the device. So just to clear out that doubt among the mass, I decided to write this post. So here is how one can get a BSNL EVDO Connection.
First things first..
BSNL EVDO is offered officially by BSNL. Since they do not have any official name for this service, people call it "BSNL EVDO". The irony is, even workers at BSNL will say "BSNL EVDO". They must come up with some name like they have for other services.
Q. Where to buy the device?
A You can buy the device in your nearest BSNL Telephone exchange. The 'buying' includes getting the connection as well. Since BSNL is not out there to sell devices in retail. Literally, the word buying does not fit into this since they are offering a service and you are ought to get the device to use it.
Q. Where else can I buy the device?
A. No where! Since BSNL is government driven organization, they are not having any retailers or outlets. You must only buy it only from BSNL Telephone exchange.
Q. Can I buy the device from existing users?
A. Never do that! Unless you know the person who is selling the device and the connection, do not buy it. The reason is, the legit way to get use others device and connection is by getting it transferred officially by BSNL and changing the address details and so on.
The another good reason not to buy from others is because of privacy and security. This device is much like an cellphone or the SIM card. Keeping terrorism in mind, one can never know that the person who is selling the device is trustful.
Q. I find the same device for sale in market. Why can't I buy it elsewhere?
A. Though one might find the same device available for sale in the market like eBay or some good electronic stores, you must get it officially from BSNL since they store all your connection related details in the device in form of settings. BSNL's ZTE EVDO devices do not need any R-UIM card to operate. They store the data inside the device. So you can buy the device only from BSNL.
-----
To sum it up, You can only get the new connection and buy the device, you must go to your nearest BSNL Telephone exchange and get it. Hope you found this helpful. If you have any questions, let me know in comments.
Thanks for this detailed information..
ReplyDeleteHowever I can add couble of information.
1) in exceptional cases you can buy that device, from the another BSNL user who has just closed the connection, if he has provided the following information.
1) original receipt copy of modem purchased by him.
2) consent letter to transfer the device, model no. esn no. phone no. allotted to him.
3)No due certificate from AO TR that the previous user has already paid the dues.4) the device is in working condition.
It is beter that the transfer taken in the same city.
5)BSNL might refuse to honour the warranty to the new user, if the device is in warranty period, unless the new user is a close relative ..i.e Father, son. mother daughter brothers sisters etc..
In the extreme case, when there is no official supply, and there is a demand as well as surplus connectiion available in BSNL may permit such transfer..
3) No due
Those are some of the good points. Thank you vaithy!

ReplyDeleteI reside at pondicherry (lawspet) and speed is slow here.. :(
@aster0id:
ReplyDeleteAs far as my knowledge is concerned BSNL is not available in bombay , rather its colonial cousin MTNL is there and hence you dont get EVDO in bombay. Sad to say that, but thats the truth, the faster you let it sink in, the better it is for you. Go for the Reliance, Tata Photon etc.
All the best.
When you are paying again Rs 3500 naturally you should get (and ask for) a new one, surrendering the rented one.
ReplyDeleteIf they have adjusted the rent paid, obtaining the balance payment from you, for the outright purchase, then you will be using the old one.
BSNL is not operating in mumbai. Its MTNL there; I am unsure if they have similar product to offer.
