We are the unofficial people, just maintaining this site to help people.

Before going to consumer forum to compain against BSNL, check whether you are getting CDMA 1x or EVDO..

If it is 11 KBps, the it is probably CDMA 1x is what you are getting.

EVDO gives more speeds like 600 Kbps - 2 Mbps..

  11. Dear Sirs
I have purchased the EVDO in Ranchi two weeks back. The maximum connection speed displayed is 193.0 KBPS anywhere in Ranchi. To that extent after having discussion with BSNL officials, who helped me by listening to my problem regarding this low speed, I was called to BSNL Office with the device and a new hybrid prl(Preferred roaming list) was loaded onto the EVDO Device. But that has also not rectified the problem.Even in the BSNL Office, the speed attained was 34.0 kbps. I am yet to get the speed of 1.0 MBPS which the Agents through whom the set was purchased, promised at the time of buying.

AFter repeated contacting BSNL Officials, they have no answers but only add that BTS might be having problems, but they have yet to provide the solutions of such low speeds, otherwise the huawei set with 144 kbps is fine. Even the BTS gives signals to a distance of 6-7 kms crow fly.

Somebody please advise how to go about increasing the speed and who should be spoken to for rectification. Any tools available with anyone for enhancing the speed.

  13. Tall talk is not matched by the performance.Very recently i purchased a EVDO device and also took a connection committing Rs 550/- a month. .The speed is shocking and is pathetic , so much so, even a first generation internet services would beat this.Above all the connection gets disconnected. This was case even in their own customer care office and that too in front of their officer . SDO concerned was honest to accept that the they are not yet ready for the promised speed that is 2.4 mbps

i would advice thje prospective customers to be informed.

  35. EVDO service is based on CDMA tec., many people say's that are not getting the speed what bsnl promises, but I use my EVDO on various locations in Ranchi & my openion is the speed of EVDO is directly proportional to signel strength, most of the area like EAST Ranchi (namkom, tatisilwe...)are not good in signal due to positions of SBT ( subscriber based terminals) BSNLis planning to introduce more nos. of SBT. Ranchi(SOUTH, CENTRAL & NORTH) is good in signal, compare to Ranchi WEST. whenever the signal is not good try to search by moving the position of EVDO. Use long ( not very long) USB EXTENSION, ROTATE the antena, place outside window ( if possiable)
    do give ur feedback
    happy surfing....

    http://bsnlevdoclub.com/forum/every-broadband-user-should-know-this-kbps-vs-t-330.html

    ***summary***

there is much difference between MBps and mbps.

bsnl evdo promises max 2.4mbps.It means you could get max. download speeds of 2.4/8 = 0.3MBps or 307.2KBps (roughly..)

In short, whatever your network speed is just divide it by 8 to get the download speed i.e,
    512kbps(network speed) = 64KBps(download speed)..roughly

  57. EVDO is Broad band USB data card and 3G is also 3rd generation data card.I had purchased 3G when it is launched at Jamshepur for down loading or uploading data and video coferencing with my daughter. But I am very sorry to say that it is total failure project of BSNL at Jamshedpur. Speed of uploading is so poor that you can not do any thing. I spoke to G.M. and Dy G.M. bsnl at jamshedpur but they have also failed to do any improvement. Then I have taken the EVDO data card for the same purpose it is working up to the satisfaction mostly. I am staying just 1000yds from the main exchange at sakchi.

  65. BSNL EVDO IS NOT UP TO THE MARK IN RANCHI. AM STAYING AT MID TOWN(HARMU) , ON THE AVERAGE GETIING 100Kbps I.E 12.5 KBPS , bsnl talk of 2000 kbPS i.e 250 KBPS. AND WHAT TO SAY BOUT BSNL 3G OUT OF 7 DAYS IN A WEEK , 2 DAYS THEY MAINTAIN THEIR NETWORK . NO CONNECTION DURING THAT TIME, AM PAYING FOR 3.6 MBPS BUT MAXIMUM IT GOES TO 500 KBPS THAT ALSO DURING MORNING TIME.

IF YOU ARE FROM RANCHI AND WANT TO GO FOR 3G ,BETTER USE TATA DOCOMO 2G ,SPEED WILL BE SAME . . BUT DOCOMO CHARGE FOR WHAT THEY GIVE. BSNL IS COMPLETE FAILURE IN ALL TERMS,

  66. Go for tata photon or banl bband

  67. Thanx everybody for sharing ur experiences. Now i'm dropping the plan to buy EVDO. My experience with 3G is even worst, it works occasionally. Sorry to say but wireless bsnl data connections behaves and performs the same as their old employees (g**d for noth**g). To some extent i like wired broadband service offered by bsnl at Ranchi.

    ReplyDelete
  68. BSNL in Ranchi or in other towns with the 3G data card is a total failure, and the worst in the telephone sector. the apathy is that even responsible top notch officials like the GM and the Dy.GM will not be able to help you out and you pay from your pocket. the service is totally a hard disappointment. it is better to stay with TATA PHOTON or any private operator but dont head for BSNL. there is no service and these officers have totally submitted themselves and their services in the hand of private operators.

I think if the place is having good network for other mobile service providers then it could work fine their. The avg downloading speed that my frnd is getting is about 60 to 80 kbps.
Many timesit goes upto 120-150 kbps.
